X-ray (definition of)
An X-ray uses electromagnetic energy in limited does to produce an image of the internal organs. Varying amounts are absorbed as this electro-magnetism passes through tissue; soft tissues in the body absorb less of the X-ray than hard tissues such as bones or teeth. If a clearer image of soft tissue is desired, the technician must administer a substance that allows these tissues to absorb X-rays more efficiently.
X-ray is a diagnostic tool used to confirm the presence of cancer, such as mesothelioma, in the body.
