Dr. Rebecca S. Wolfer
Overview
Dr. Rebecca Wolfer earned her medical degree from Washington University at St. Louis where she graduated as a distinguished member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society. Dr. Wolfer then went on to complete a general surgery residency at the University of Maryland and a Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. That year medical students named her Teaching Resident of the Year.
Professional Highlights
Dr. Wolfer is board certified in both general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. She entered the academic field when she took a position as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Southern Illinois School of Medicine in Quincy, Illinois. Today she is an associate professor in the Department of Surgery at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University.
Publications
Dr. Wolfer has authored and co-authored a number of scholarly articles including, "Recurrent Merkel Cell Carcinoma of the Upper Extremity" and "Thymic Carcinoma Presenting as Cardiac Tamponade," which were both published in the Southern Medical Journal.
Affiliations
Dr. Wolfer's interests include general thoracic surgery, thorascopy, trauma surgery and surgical critical care. Professionally she is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians and a Fellow in the American Colleges of Surgeons. Dr. Wolfer is also an active member of the Association of Academic Surgery, Women in Thoracic Surgery and the General Thoracic Club.
