An Associate Surgeon in the Division of Thoracic Surgeon at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Mass., Dr. Michael Y. Chang, MD, is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School, where he earned his medical degree in 1993. Chang completed his residency in general surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He also served as a research fellow in surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and, in addition, earned a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Board certified in both surgery and thoracic surgery, Chang is also the Chief of Thoracic Surgery for the Boston Veteran's Administration healthcare system and has been an instructor in surgical treatment of mesothelioma surgery at Harvard Medical School since 2002. His work at Brigham and Women's also puts him in close contact with patients at the renowned Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

Clinical Research

Dr. Chang lists his clinical interests as benign and malignant esophageal surgery, lung transplantation, minimally invasive surgery, and thoracic malignancies, specifically lung cancer, mediastinal tumors, and mesothelioma. Chang has also conducted research in the area of thoracic cancers and their treatment at various stages, including studies that involve malignant mesothelioma patients as well as those with other non-small cell lung cancers.
