Dr. John Pella began his medical career after graduating in 1971 from the Universita Degli Studi Di Bologna in Bologna, Italy. Dr. Pella then went on to take a position at the Our Lady of Fatima Hospital where he currently serves as the Chief of Pulmonary Medicine. Pulmonary surgeons are involved with resectable surgery to remove malignancies for those suffering from mesothelioma, a fatal form of cancer. Mesothelioma (including peritoneal mesothelioma and pericardial mesothelioma) is typically caused by exposure to asbestos, a natural occurring mineral popularly used in construction materials. Around 3,000 new cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed each year. However, due to a long latency period of around 20 to 50 years many patients aren't diagnosed until stage 3 mesothelioma which is often too late for effective mesothelioma treatment.

Recognitions and Awards

Dr. Pella has received a number of recognitions including a Patients' Choice Award in 2008. He is also fluent in Italian.
