Individuals who have been exposed to asbestos and have inhaled or ingested tiny fibers may one day develop a malignancy in the mesothelium, or lining, of the internal organs. Asbestos fibers can cling to the peritoneum (causing peritoneal mesothelioma), pericardium (casuing pericardial mesothelioma) or pleura (causing pleural mesothelioma) and may eventually become a tumor. Oncologists who specialize in the treatment of malignant tumors, like Dr. Conte, are a valuable asset to any mesothelioma cancer patient.
