California wellness center to host "Pink Ribbon Day of Wellness"
October 24th will be a special day for the Bodysattva Movement Arts Center in Thousand Oaks, California. The wellness center will be hosting "Pink Ribbon Program Day of Wellness," a day for those recovering from breast cancer treatment to pamper themselves with wellness and beauty activities.
The program will run from noon until 4 pm, and includes Pilate's instruction, acupuncture and chiropractic services, lymphatic massage, relaxation and yoga, and a host of "recovery resources," including wigs and prosthetics.
Dr. Shana Berger, who works at Bodysattva, says that the program is for "those undergoing cancer treatment or recovering after treatment," especially those who have experienced reconstructive breast surgery as a part of their treatment plan. However, Dr. Berger encourages all cancer sufferers, survivors and their "support system" to attend.
"We intend it to be a day that leaves people and their support system feeling like there are resources out there that are accessible and can make them feel, live and look better," Dr. Berger says. Her hope is that the programs offered on the 24th will help attendees in a variety of ways.
"There are many things people can do to enhance their recovery," believes Dr. Berger.
In particular, alternative therapies such as yoga, acupuncture and meditation have been found to greatly benefit those suffering from certain types of cancer, including breast cancer and a rare disease known as mesothelioma. These therapies work in conjunction with conventional cancer treatment methods, such as chemotherapy, to restore a sense of calm and well-being, among other things.
Dr. Berger believes that yoga especially is a beneficial practice for cancer sufferers.
"Those of us who practice yoga regularly know the many benefits first hand," says Dr. Berger.
Those interested in attending Saturday's program at Bodysattva should contact the center to reserve a spot. Their telephone number is 805-497-0300, and the center is located at 1414 East Thousand Oaks Blvd. in Thousand Oaks, CA.
