Located in Cherokee County in the rolling hills of East Texas, the city of Jacksonville, spans just over 14 square miles and is home to approximately 14,000 people. It is the principal city of the Jacksonville Micropolitan Statistical Area. Jacksonville began in 1847 as the town of Gum Creek. By the late 1800s, agriculture became the prime focus of Jacksonville's economy.
