Jackson is the county seat of and the largest city in Madison County located in the heart of West Tennessee between Nashville and Memphis. Settled in 1820 along the Forked Deer River, Jackson was originally named Alexandria. In 1822, the city was renamed to Jackson in honor of Andrew Jackson, then a war hero and later to become a United States President. Today home to nearly 60,000 residents, Jackson, known for its big city flair and small town charm, is a city with unique shops, rich Civil War and musical heritage, art galleries and delicious southern style cooking.
