Located approximately 15 miles of Scranton in Northeastern Pennsylvania, the city of Carbondale was incorporated in Luzerne County on March 15, 1851, making it the oldest city in what is now called Lackawanna County, and the fourth oldest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
