Evendale, Ohio

Evendale is a village in southwestern Ohio, with a population of just over 3,000 residents. Evendale is located in Hamilton County, about 14 miles north of Cincinnati. The village is mainly residential, with some heavy industry and small businesses. Local employers include GE Aviation, Aluminum Extruded Shapes and Wal-Mart. Evendale is home to Gorman Heritage Farm, which has been a working farm since 1835, and also serves as an outdoor education center, providing special events and hands-on learning experiences in a traditional farm setting.

Evendale was first settled in the late 18th century. Agriculture and dairy farming were the main economic activities well into the early 20th century. The arrival of the railroads in the late 19th century allowed for greater trade of farm products and ease of travel, expanding opportunities for development. In 1925, the Tennessee Corporation established a fertilizer manufacturing plant. In the 1930s, the Wright Aeronautical Company opened an aircraft engine facility which was later sold to the Electric Auto-Lite Company. Part of the facility later became GE Aviation's Evendale manufacturing plant, which grew tenfold during World War II. When Evendale incorporated as a village in 1950, GE and several other defense contractors were included within the new village boundaries. Other businesses in Evendale at mid-century included a soybean processing plant, dairy farms, and a milk bottling plant. The Formica-Evendale Federal Credit Union was founded in 1976, primarily to service employees of Newarby Formica Corporation. Today, Evendale's industrial areas are concentrated on the west side of the village, with the east side reserved for residential, agricultural and parks areas.

Evendale's history of construction and industry is concentrated in the mid-20th century, at a time when asbestos-containing materials were widely used. Exposure to asbestos may put workers at risk for mesothelioma and other asbestos-related disease. If you or a loved one have been exposed to asbestos in Evendale, you may benefit by seeking counsel from an asbestos lawyer.
