Omaha is the largest city in the state of Nebraska, located on the banks of the Missouri River approximately 20 miles north of the Platte River. At the turn of the century, Omaha Union Stockyards was third in the nation for production and closely rivaled Chicago’s Union Stockyards. Since the 1970s, Omaha has seen a steady growth of insurance companies headquartered in the city, as well as many other key businesses. Today, Omaha ranks eighth among the United States’ largest cities both per capita billionaires and Fortune 500 companies. Major Omaha employers include Alegent Health System, Mutual of Omaha, ConAgra Foods, Offutt Air Force Base, and the West Corporation.
