Located in western Iowa along the Missouri River, Sioux City is in Plymouth and Woodbury counties. The city is currently the fourth largest city in Iowa, with a population of more than 82,000. Sioux City serves as the regional hub for business, employment, industry, retail trade, medical care, educational opportunities and tourism in Northwest Iowa, Southeast South Dakota, and Northeast Nebraska. Sioux City was established in 1854. The first steamboat made its way to the town in 1856, bringing ready-framed houses and supplies.
