Windsor Locks is a town located in Hartford County situated west of the Connecticut River. Though settled in 1663, it wasn't until 1854 that the town was incorporated. With a total area just over nine square miles, most of Windsor Lock's estimated 12,000 residents live within two-thirds of the densely developed square miles. The remaining one-third of the town's area is occupied by Bradley International Airport, which also houses the New England Air Museum.

Windsor Locks was home to The Dexter Corporation, the oldest corporation listed on the New York Stock Exchange, until 2000. In the late 1700s, the Dexter Corporation (formally known as C.H. Dexter and Sons) established a family-owned saw and grist mill which evolved into a multi-national producer of long fiber papers and chemical laminates. In its 233 years of operation, the company grew from manufacturing tissues, toilet paper, and tea bags to marketing more specialized products such as medical garments and industrial finishes. Another company with roots in Windsor Locks is Hamilton Standard which opened its aircraft propeller plant in Windsor Locks in 1952. Then in 1999, Hamilton Standard merged with Sundstrand Corporation and became known as Hamilton Sundstrand, which is still headquartered in Windsor Locks.
