Greenwich, Connecticut

The Town of Greenwich was settled in 1640 and was declared a township by the General Assembly in Hartford, Connecticut in 1665. Greenwich is located in the southwest corner of the state; it is bordered on the west and north by Westchester County, on the east by Stamford, and on the south by Long Island Sound. Greenwich is the southernmost and westernmost municipality in Connecticut and is approximately 40 minutes from Manhattan by train. Twice the size of Manhattan, Greenwich currently has a population of more than 62,000. In 2005, Greenwich was ranked 12th on Money magazine's list of the "100 Best Places to Live".

Greenwich grew even more with the construction of the railroad in 1848, linking Greenwich to New York City and eventually New Haven and beyond. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the town had a resort industry with more than a dozen inns located in the central part of town. Today, Greenwich is home to many hedge funds and other financial service companies.
