Derby, Connecticut

Derby, the smallest city in the state of Connecticut, covers 5.3 square miles with an estimated population of 12,080. Derby was officially recognized as a town in 1675 and incorporated as a city in 1893. Considered to be part of the Naugatuck River Valley, Derby is located in southwest Connecticut at the junction of the Housatonic and Naugatuck Rivers.

Early on, Derby's industrial growth came primarily from agriculture and commerce with the West Indies.
