The City of Santa Barbara is the county seat of Santa Barbara County, California. This coastal city is located between Los Angeles and San Francisco, and has a current population of about 88,400. In 1939, the Work Projects Administration built a Naval Reserve Center, which operated until 1995. Today the center is home to the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum. The Marine Corps Air Station Santa Barbara was active from 1942-1946; the site is currently occupied by Santa Barbara Municipal Airport and the University of California, Santa Barbara.
