Hollywood, California

Hollywood, home to more than 120,000 people, is a famous district in Los Angeles, California, situated northwest of downtown Los Angeles. Though incorporated as a municipality since 1903, Hollywood does not have its own municipal government; instead it has an appointed official that serves as “honorary mayor” for ceremonial purposes only.

By 1920, Hollywood became world-famous as the center of the film industry in the United States. In 1947, the first commercial television station west of the Mississippi River, KTLA, began operating in Hollywood. In the 1950s, music recording studios and offices began moving into Hollywood. Today, however, much of the movie industry has dispersed into surrounding areas such as the Westside neighborhood, and the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys, but significant auxiliary industries, such as editing, effects, props, post-production, and lighting companies remain in Hollywood, as does the back lot of Paramount Pictures. After many years of serious decline, when many Hollywood landmarks were threatened with demolition, Hollywood is undergoing rapid gentrification and revitalization. The Hotel Roosevelt, which opened its doors in 1927, completed a major renovation in 2005.

Hollywood, California’s history of construction and commercial renovation place it in a high risk category for asbestos exposure. Workers and others exposed to asbestos may be at risk for developing an asbestos-related disease such as mesothelioma cancer. You should know that asbestos law firms represent people from Hollywood who were exposed to asbestos and have been diagnosed with mesothelioma.
