Buena Park is a city located in northwestern Orange County, adjacent to the city of Anaheim and 12 miles northwest of Santa Ana. In the late 1800s, Abel Steams acquired Rancho Los Coyotes. In 1885, James A. Whitaker, a wholesale grocer from Chicago, purchased 690 acres of this land. Whitaker was interested in developing a cattle ranch, but Santa Fe Railway officials convinced him to use the land for a new town. In 1887, Whitaker founded the town of Buena Park in conjunction with the railway development of what we now know as Orange County. The city was incorporated in 1953. Today, the city is now primarily a residential suburb and commercial hub. It is home to more than 84,000 residents and nicknamed the "Center of the Southland".

Initially, Buena Park was an agricultural center when founded. While dairy was the main industry, wine and citrus were also important industries. Buena Park became known as a dairy center. The Lily Creamery began operations in Buena Park in 1889. The creamery was the first industry in the city, with the exception of a few wineries. Today, Buena Park's main commercial artery is Beach Boulevard, State Route 39, Buena Park Downtown shopping center, and the Entertainment Zone (E-Zone) district. The E-Zone, the city's main claim to fame, features many well-known tourist attractions including Knott's Berry Farm theme park and its sister water park Knott's Soak City, Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament.
