Commercial Metals

The Commercial Metals Company was founded in 1915 in Irving, Texas. Since then the company has opened up branches worldwide and become a very successful producer of steel based products.

Prior to the 1980's, millions of people who were employed at industrial job sites like Commercial Metals were faced with the harsh reality that they were working around a hazardous material while on the job. This dangerous substance was a naturally occurring mineral called asbestos, and it was found inside insulation, protective clothing and a variety of other products. It was a major ingredient in industrial goods because the mineral is strong, durable, pliable and resistant to heat and fire. Added to that is the fact that asbestos was an inexpensive natural resource, so manufacturers often thought of it as being a miracle material. However, there was one overwhelming downside: asbestos is also toxic.

When it was first discovered in the United States, people had no idea that asbestos was poisonous. It was found in large deposits and mining companies gathered it by the ton. They sold it to manufacturers all throughout the country, and it was soon being used as a base for products that were sent to steel mills, homes, naval vessels, small businesses, schools and most anywhere else you can think of. That caused an astounding number to be exposed to this hazardous substance.

People who get close to asbestos are likely to inhale tiny fibrous particles of the material that have broken loose and become airborne. These fibers attach themselves to the lining of the respiratory system and cause immense damage over time. Victims of asbestos exposure often suffer from breathing disorders and cancerous diseases such as asbestosis, mesothelioma and other serious ailments. Although mesothelioma cancer generally takes a very long time to develop, they are incurable and often fatal.

Were you among the people who were subjected to the presence of asbestos while on the job at Commercial Metals? Then your health may still be at risk for asbestos cancer. Contact your doctor to explain this possibility at your earliest convenience.
