Armstrong World Industries Forms Asbestos Trust

New Haven, CT - June 25, 2007 - The Armstrong World Industries Asbestos Trust began accepting claims on May 14, 2007. Armstrong World Industries (AWI) established the asbestos trust to handle claims from individuals who contracted malignant mesothelioma after being exposed to products manufactured by AWI that contained asbestos.

Armstrong World Industries is a global leader in the design and manufacture of floor coverings, ceilings and cabinets. The company is probably most well known for its linoleum floor product first introduced in 1909. AWI also manufactured other products, however, including gaskets, joint-sealing materials, pipe sealants, vinyl asbestos tile, pipe covering, insulation products and Hi-Temp cement. Some of these products, starting in the mid 1930's contained asbestos, a favored insulation material that has superior heat and fire resistant properties. Workers from a variety of industries were directly or indirectly exposed to asbestos dust that was deposited into the air as trades people conducted their work. Consequently, many of these workers developed a form of malignant mesothelioma or other diseases related to asbestos exposure.

A significant number of these injured workers or their family members filed claims with Armstrong World Industries and in August of 2006, AWI filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in order to mitigate escalating litigation costs. As part of a reorganization plan, AWI established an Asbestos Personal Injury Settlement Trust for purposes of handling all personal injury claims that the company is legally responsible for.

The Trust is now accepting claims on behalf of individuals who have been diagnosed with an asbestos related disease like mesothelioma due to exposure to Armstrong World Industries asbestos containing products.

Early, Ludwick, Sweeney and Strauss is currently in the process of filing claims with the Trust for such individuals. Please contact us to obtain more information regarding eligibility requirements or assistance in filing a claim.
